Thinking of behind the scenes, at FIFA HQ tucked away in a quiet corner is the board ‘MATCH IT Deployment Area’ which looks quiet an ordinary office but once I entered, I understood the importance of the office and the work handled there, all this done by none other than our Mahindra Satyamites about 10 of them working night and day in shifts.
Anyone and everyone who comes to work at the FIFA 2010 World Cup has to have made a visit there which could range from getting an official laptop, mobiles and other equipment as required by the officials. They ensure that the right equipment is given out and all the required software loaded into the Laptops or the emergency numbers and other important contacts of FIFA are stored in the Mobile Phones. They also configure and activate the 3G cards required for some of the officials. All this has been happening right before the start of the tournament when the officials and delegates started arriving.
The team keeps track of all the assets delivered and when it’s time for the officials to return them back towards the end of the tournament, they also have to check for damages and ensure all the equipment has been returned and accordingly record it in the system. This small team has been ensuring every official has the right piece of equipment and software required to function effectively and thus make sure the world get to watch a wonderful tournament.
What’s more astonishing is that the team made sure that the FIFA HQ was IT ready which is an enormous task considering the networks to be set up and the printers, routers and other such equipment to be installed. Apart from this they were also instrumental in installing the IT network at the Delegates Hotels numbering around 10 across Johannesburg. Setting up IT infrastructure includes coordinating with multiple vendors for Networking, LAN and wireless set ups as all these are handled by different vendors. So while all the FIFA Officials had to just come collect their equipment and plug and start working, behind the scenes, this team made it possible at the HQ and other important points like Transport Office Depot and Hotels to be connected with networks necessary for each desk at these points for the work to done seamlessly .
Mahindra Satyam name splashing all across is making it a clear winner this world Cup. We also assist in deciding the best players of the tournament – The Golden Ball, Silver and Bronze Ball.
